My commissions begin with a conversation, not a paintbrush (not straight away anyway). I ask you to bring an object that’s precious to you, because it sparks a special kind of conversation where polite chit-chat relaxes into something more meaningful. Of course likeness in a portrait is important, but your story is what changes everything. And when your story is seen through my eyes, it becomes pattern.
Every portrait I create finds its own way to tell a person’s story. Pattern, symbol and decorative detail grow from careful listening - to a sitter’s story, the places that have
